Welcome to the web home of the Northeastern Connecticut Art Guild (NECTAG), founded in 1985. We promote interest and education in the visual arts. Our mission is to foster growth and opportunities for artists in the “Quiet Corner” of New England.

We are a non-profit organization registered with the state of Connecticut.Membership

Membership meetings are held the second Wednesday of the months of March through December, starting at 6:30 P.M. Please view the Events page for locations and features of upcoming meetings.

These meetings are a great opportunity to interact with fellow artists and take part in the informal discussions, planning, and sharing of ideas and information about what’s happening in the art world. Frequently the brief business meeting will be followed by a guest speaker/demonstrator expert in various media. Now and then a field trip may be offered, perhaps to an artist’s studio or to a spot for plein air painting. Throughout every year the guild organizes non-juried exhibits at various venues for members to display and offer for sale their work. Most of the exhibits run for a month; occasionally there may be weekend or one-day shows. Most exhibits open with a reception for invited guests to meet the artists.

We encourage all guild members to attend the meetings, participate in discussions, bring suggestions, and volunteer for various duties associated with the guild activities.

Guild membership is open to anyone 18 years of age and older. Whether you are a beginning amateur artist, an accomplished professional or somewhere in-between, you are welcome to join us.

To join the guild, print, complete and mail the membership application form linked on our Membership page. For more information you may call 860 774 4250 or 860 963 7888 to speak to a guild officer.

NE CT Arts & Cultural Assessment Underway

The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, the Northeast Connecticut Council of Government are jointly funding a local arts assessment for the 12 towns in NECCOG: Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Eastford, Killingly, Plainfield, Pomfret, Putnam, Sterling, Thompson, Woodstock and Union. Through the Putnam Economic and Community Development Office, Ellen Silbermann of Union has been hired to conduct the assessment.

Arts, culture, heritage and educational resources are a vital part of our culture and a major sector in the economy. This assessment will be directed at these and other within each community to profile, get facts and opinions and evaluate the diverse needs and priorities of it's artists, cultural organizations and businesses.

The assessment will also provide an opportunity to inventory our regional assets and put them all in one database. Raising awareness of arts and culture in the region, and bringing the resources together for the cultural community will set the course to cohesively enhance economic possibilities for cultural development in NE CT.

Investing in the creative economy by supporting local historical treasures, performing and visual arts, individual artists, arts education and awareness, festivals, events and facilities, and creative businesses can make a tremendous impact by enhancing the overall economy. Questions about how individuals feel, perceive and use these cultural sectors are highly important to the future of arts in our region as a cultural roadmap to guide development. Regional economic advancement through new ideas and opportunities that will be identified in interviews and the survey, will have the impact of shaping future of Arts & Cultural community in NE CT.

To participate in the online survey and add your information to the database for the region, please contact Ellen Silbermann by emailing nectculturalsurvey@gmail.com or call 860-508-7252. Those who would like an assessment mailed can request by phone to be put on the mailing list. Your input is extremely valuable and will foster recommendations that could lead to the creation of a Local Arts Agency.

The key findings, issues, interview and survey results along with recommendations for the cultural and arts community for future development will be presented in a public forum....date and time to be announced.
